Frequently Asked Questions

What is BJJ\ Grappling ?

razilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) / Grappling is an art centered around utilising grapplign to physically subdue opponets with the use of holds, pins, armlocks and chokes and without striking.

Taught from standing on the feet to full ground fighting where you can control the engagement and where it takes place & ulitmately how something is finished.

BJJ was orignally popularised in the UFC showing how utilising the techniques we show a smaller opponent can physcially subdue someone much larger.

What is the difference between Gi and Nogi ?

The main difference between Gi and NoGi is the utilisation of grips of material during use of the Gi when grappling.

The Gi or Kimono is a uniform where you have infinite grip combinations of material to control and direct your opponents.

NoGi training is much faster and more high-paced than it’s Gi counterpart. This is because in NoGi there aren’t as many ways to hold or slowan opponent while rolling

do I need to get fit before joining ?

Absolutely not!

There is no fitness standard to starting BJJ, quite the opposite - We have had professional athletes from other fields try BJJ and become tired during a session. You get fitter and strong for BJJ by doing BJJ.

Which class should I start with ?

We have a Beginner Class specifically tailored to those just starting our grappling. This is a bespoke enivronment at the start of their journey where you learn the basics of movement, attack, defence, sweep, pass and counter.

We do actively encourage people however to attend all the classes to get the full range of experiences.

I have been training at Gripper for 2-3 Years. I had reached purple belt at my last gym but I had hit a plateau. The coaching is some of the best you can get with a plethora of high level training partners, Moving to lloyd's gym was easily one of the best decisions I have made and wished I had done it sooner
